Prerequisites: Year III standing
Offered: Full time for one month. Not offered July and August.
Location: CAM - The Cambridge Hospital (6)
Description: This clerkship is offered for students to learn about psychiatric problems and emotional issues that any practicing physician might encounter. The course is geared to the student who feels he or she can best learn in a small group setting. The clinical experience takes place in a general hospital that is part of a comprehensive community health center program and provides broad exposure to public sector psychiatry. In addition to being integral members of a multidisciplinary inpatient team, students will be individually supervised in the outpatient clinic and the psychiatric emergency ward. To help integrate the rotation, longitudinal seminars will run parallel to the individual clinical work and will consist of case presentations correlated with readings and more formal overviews and discussion. Students may elect to extend the rotation beyond a month and are encouraged to develop a program tailored to their own special interests.
