Introduction to Urology

Description: The course is designed as an introduction to urological problems. Common urological disorders (infection, neoplasia, BPH, stones, hematuria, and incontinence) will be reviewed systematically. The student will make daily rounds with the urological team, evaluate, work up, and present patients in the outpatient urology clinic once a week, and attend our scientific journal club. Other activities will include weekly genitourinary radiology and pathology conferences, M+M, Grand Rounds and daily surgery. Each student will have the opportunity to perform cystoscopy and master the genitourinary exam.
Incorporation of Basic Science Content and Evidence-Based Medicine:
The student will make a short daily presentation on morning walk rounds reviewing the evidence based literature related to a diagnosis of one of the patients they are taking care of. Each student will give a 20 minute Evidence Based Medicine/Basic Science Lecture at the end of their rotation during urology grand rounds.

Honors with Distinction: Students performance at Level of Intern, Volunteers thoughts and actions spontaneously: Knowledge Base above HMS IV Level. Integral Member of Urology Team: Read Literature Independently + Recommended Reading Honors: Student Performs at HMS IV Level, Volunteers thoughts and actions spontaneously: Knowledge Base at HMS IV Level. Active Member of Urology Team. Reads Recommended Reading Satisfactory: Student Performs at HMS III Level, Answers some questions. Does Expected Work. Knowledge Base at HMS III Level. Follows Urology Team Unsatisfactory: Student Performs at HMS 1 Level, Unable to answer any questions. Does not perform expected work. Knowledge Base at HMS 1 Level. Unreliable/ Un predictable
