Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Description: The course is designed to acquaint students with the multi-faceted field of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and introduce them to the surgical relief of deformities of all kinds. Students will be included in ongoing clinical aspects of Plastic & Reconstuctive Surgery with special emphasis on the evaluation and treatment of patients with deformities resulting from trauma, neoplasia, burns, hand injuries, congenital defects and changes of aging. There will be weekly specialized clinics at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Shriners Burns Hospital. Students will be expected to join residents in all service activities, including clinics, rounds and the operating room. There will be opportunities to work with private staff.
Incorporation of Basic Science Content and Evidence-Based Medicine:
Students are an integral part of service including multiple weekly conferences where both basic science and evidence based med are reviewed and discussed in context of the service.
Grade Criteria:
Honors with Distinction: Top 5% by performance. Generally only given to students we would want to train in our program. Honors: Above average performance, interest, intelligence, work effort and ability Satisfactory: Average performance Unsatisfactory: Well below average and including major infractions.
