Description: This clerkship makes use of the breadth and range of psychiatric services in the BWH and FH to expose students to fundamental issues in psychiatry: understanding and practice of interviewing skills, knowledge of psychiatric disorders and treatments, and familiarity and ease in talking with emotionally ill patients. Under the supervision of Harvard Longwood Psychiatry Residency Training Program attendings, students will work up and treat patients and participate in unit activities in one of two settings: in the Faulkner Hospital inpatient service or on the BWH Consultation-Liaison Service. Students will also participate in the outpatient evaluations and on call at the BWH or Faulkner ED, where they will see acute presentations of psychiatric illness and learn about the management of crises. Additionally, students participate in tutorials and a program of didactic seminars each Wednesday and visit an inpatient unit at Children's Hospital for an exposure to child psychiatry.
