Description: In the Primary Care Clerkship, students are matched with a faculty preceptor with whom they work longitudinally to care for patients over the academic year. At CHA, students are part of a Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship during which they are matched with an Internal Medicine preceptor and care for a cohort of patients through the year in multiple venues, with the support of their preceptor. The learning goals for students include the assessment of acute complaints in outpatient settings and triaging acute concerns to appropriate settings; preventative care; management of chronic disease; and the integration of SDOH in care delivery. The student is an important member of the care team, and competence is achieved through longitudinal patient relationships across venues and close mentoring/precepting with their longitudinal preceptor. Over the course of the year, students will gain confidence and competence in achieving progressive autonomy in clinical assessment and decision making.
