In the setting of MGH's locked 24-bed state-of-the-art general hospital psychiatric unit, students care for patients, age 18 to geriatric, with co-morbid medical illness who have often failed earlier treatment. Students are assigned to an attending resident-team, who round each morning, work-up, and closely follow team patients. Students will also work with Consultation- Psychiatry staff and patients on the medical wards. Students spend 2 weeknights 6-10 pm (Sun-Thurs) and one night overnight 6 pm to 9 am (Fri or Sat) per rotation on call in the busy psychiatric emergency room. Experienced clinicians conduct about 20 seminars for medical students throughout the month. Weekly teaching rounds at Lindemann State Hospital Inpatient Unit are included.
