The three month clerkship is divided between 2 months of inpatient medicine and one month outpatient medicine. On the inpatient services, students will spend 4 weeks on the Ellison Service (every 4th night on call) and 4 weeks on the Bigelow Service (every 4th night on call). On the outpatient services, the student will participate in medicine and medical subspecialty offices. Students meet approximately twice a week for sessions in patient management. These sessions allow students to manage both inpatients and outpatients in hypothetical settings and are designed to teach clinical problem solving and critical judgment. A lecture series is designed to teach students optical use of the clinical laboratories. A lecture series on electrocardiographic evaluation of cases is also included. Students also participate in auscultation rounds to redefine their physical finding techniques. Students are supplied with uniforms, beepers and have access to the house staff library and receive a password for our computer literature search program.
By tutors, attending physicians, and house staff.
